Causes of Broken FIBC Straps

Oct 03, 2025

FIBCs are a common and indispensable tool in today's transportation and packaging industries. They can hold the goods being transported, preventing loss or damage.

However, FIBCs can also experience issues during use, such as broken edges. If you encounter this problem, avoid using them, as it can have serious consequences. Does anyone know what causes broken edges on FIBC straps?

Generally speaking, there are three reasons why the edges of FIBC slings can become worn:

a. Frequent use and constant lifting wear and tear cause the slings to reach their service life. In this case, the FIBC has reached its service life or usage limit, and a new one should be purchased.

b. The sling itself may be damaged. A key factor is that the manufacturer's production quality is low, allowing only one or two uses. If the sling is damaged but the overall structure is fine, you can simply replace it if you have the means.

c. Using the wrong material for the sling is another major factor causing edge damage. Using too much polypropylene and too little polyethylene will cause weathering. Since FIBCs are often used outdoors, edge damage is inevitable. If this happens, replacing the manufacturer as soon as possible is the right choice, as they lack basic knowledge of sling material.
