Due to their frequent use and the specific nature of their materials, instances of bulk bags tearing or rupturing are relatively common. Consequently, it is often necessary to repair them quickly to ensure they can be returned to service promptly.
So, what specific techniques can be employed for such rapid repairs?
1. If the damage occurs at the bag's lifting loops (handles):
It is crucial to note that these loops serve as the primary load-bearing points and are therefore the areas most prone to failure. There are two methods for rapid repair in this scenario: The first involves trimming away the severed section at the original point of breakage, then using a sewing machine to apply a double-stitch repair, ensuring the spacing between the two stitch lines is less than 10 mm. The second method involves patching the damaged area with a piece of bulk bag fabric of the same material; this should be done on a flat-bed sewing machine with a straight double-stitch, ensuring that the outer stitch line is positioned at least 20 mm from the edges of the patch fabric.
2. If the damage occurs on the bag's side panels or bottom:
In these instances, repairs must be performed using a sewing machine (specifically, a flat-bed or industrial sewing machine). The repair stitch pattern should utilize a 3-needle, 5-thread configuration. When patching, ensure that the dimensions of the patch fabric exceed those of the damaged opening, maintaining a minimum overlap of 20 mm. If the bag is typically subjected to heavy loads during use, it is highly recommended to perform a double-sided repair (patching both the interior and exterior of the bag); this technique significantly enhances the durability and strength of the repaired bulk bag.
