Which is better, release agent or release wax?
I prefer solvent-based semi-permanent release agent for two reasons: high gloss and low residue, which is incomparable to release wax.
But on conventional original molds, release wax is recommended, and paste wax is conducive to blocking tiny pores. Secondly, for the first demolding of a new mold, release wax can also be used for safety reasons. Even if the effect is not the best, it will be safer.
Many times, when a new FRP mold uses a semi-permanent release agent for the first time, it is easy to cause various demolding obstacles due to insufficient operation times or poor absorption.
What's wrong with the new FRP mold gel coat?
The cracks should have existed before polishing, but they may not be very obvious or have not been noticed. It should be caused by the gel coat being too thick or the bottom glass fiber not being filled. These small problems often occur in the corners due to the accumulation of polyester.
Is it good to brush the mold gel coat by hand?
Whether it is mold gel coat or product gel coat, spraying is still recommended. The amount is small, the coverage is uniform, and the thickness is easier to control. But sometimes there may be no spray gun, the caliber does not match, or the mold structure is complex. You can also perform hand brushing of gel coat according to the actual situation.
Some people say that there will be brush marks in hand paste operation, but under a certain thickness of coverage, it is not very obvious on the mold surface. You see the heavier brush marks on the back of the resin layer. Of course, the severity is also related to your technique. It is recommended that you use a softer wool brush to reduce the brush marks of gel coat to a certain extent. As for whether the hand brushing effect of gel coat is good or not, it depends on your comprehensive situation. If you can spray it, it is still preferred. If you can't spray it, you can only hand brush or roller.
