Can two or more layers of chopped fiberglass mat be continuously rolled?
Generally, customers are advised to operate in a single layer. If you want to speed up the production, you can choose a high-weight fiberglass mat in the middle layer. There are cases where multiple layers of chopped fiberglass mat are laid at one time. The reason why it is not recommended is that the resin wettability will deteriorate with the increase in thickness. Usually, we need to apply more resin glue to get a FRP part with a high resin content. There is a lot of waste of materials, but the strength of the product is reduced.
Can the glass fiber be pressed into a right angle?
No, it will be difficult to operate, especially with some high-weight glass fibers.
Because the glass fiber has a certain elasticity and the resin gel also takes time, it is difficult to apply it at some right angles or corners of the parts. It can be pressed down during operation, but it will bounce back after a while.
It is necessary to fill the position with resin putty to avoid the problem of hollowness and lack of glue in the molded parts.
What materials are used for FRP repair?
There are many FRP repair materials, which are mainly selected based on the repair position and the type of base material, as well as the trade-off in material cost. If it is a gel coat surface repair, use the original gel coat and add some gas silicon direct repair agent. For the repair of the FRP structure layer, generally speaking, the original resin can also be used, but the operability will be relatively poor. You can use resin putty with glass fiber, which will be faster, but the price will be slightly more expensive. Depending on the resin system, there are unsaturated resins, epoxy resins, and acrylic resin putties, etc. Note that atomic putty can also be used for local repairs, but its strength is generally not very good, and it is suitable for small areas and local repairs.
