Materials and Applications for Ton Bags

Oct 27, 2025

Ton bags, also known as bulk bags, space bags, and large packaging bags, are typically made from polyester fibers such as polypropylene and polyethylene.

Ton bags are generally made of two materials: polypropylene and polyethylene. Polypropylene is a non-toxic, odorless, and milky white, highly crystalline polymer with a density of only 0.90-0.91 g/cm³, one of the lowest among all plastics currently available. Polypropylene has excellent heat resistance, and products can be sterilized at temperatures above 100°C. It also maintains its shape even at 150°C without external forces. However, due to its high shrinkage (1% to 2.5%), thick-walled products are prone to denting. For parts requiring high-dimensional precision, a glossy surface is essential. Polyethylene is particularly stable in water, with a water absorption rate of 0.01% and a molecular weight of approximately 80,000-150,000. Polyethylene is generally a thermoplastic formed by the polymerization of ethylene. Polyethylene is odorless, non-toxic, waxy to the touch, and has excellent low-temperature resistance (at least applicable temperatures of -100°C to -70°C). High-density polyethylene (HDPE), commonly known as low-pressure polyethylene, is more durable than LDPE and LLDPE. It has high resistance to heat, oil, steam, and environmental stress cracking. It also has excellent electrical insulation, impact, and cold resistance.

Typically, when producing ton bags, these two raw materials are purchased as granules or powders. They are heated and stirred in a secret factory recipe, then drawn into a yarn, cut into the necessary staple fibers, and then woven using circular looms into needle-punched nonwoven fabrics of desired or common ton bag specifications. For custom ton bags, these knitted nonwovens can be sewn into various sizes. Polypropylene is generally used, though plastics or raw material companies occasionally use high-pressure polyethylene. Ton bags are typically coated with low-pressure polyethylene film for waterproofing. These materials are the basic materials for ton bags, with other accessories typically added during the production process.

Suitable for use in the chemical, building materials, plastics, and mining industries.
They are used to carry granular materials, powders, pellets, industrial raw materials, fertilizers, waste, ores, agricultural products, and more. They typically have a load capacity of 500kg to 2 tons and are ideal for use with forklifts and cranes, making them ideal for warehousing and transportation.
